PARIS-CHALMOUX (SOUTHERN BURGUNDY)

From 2000 on expanded my visual alphabet to include a house of cards, a labyrinth, a dove and an eagle. From 2005 to 2007 I did series of 8 large, elaborate (160 x 160cm, please see catalogue number one) graphite drawings on very smooth canvas. I have never particularly liked the fragility of paper, and I have always felt that the glass covering such pieces distances the viewer from the work. Drawing on this marvelous canvas allowed me to simply stretch these drawings, rendering them more solid. They thus become less fragile and less distant.

In recent years I have been working on paintings of planets, a continuation of my concerns about landscape and being somewhere. I have also completed a series of twenty small still lives in a nod to classical Spanish still life painting (bodegones), which I love.
